Bristol NHS Group Statement: Federated Data Platform (FDP - Palantir)

Last updated: 28/01/2026

Thank you to everyone who has contacted us about the Federated Data Platform (FDP). We recognise that how the NHS uses data is important to patients and the public, and we understand why people want clarity and reassurance about security, confidentiality, transparency, and ethics.

The FDP is a national programme

The FDP is a national programme led by NHS England. NHS England has published information about the programme, including national governance and supporting materials. You can find more information about the FDP via NHS England.

National programme queries

For questions specifically about the national FDP programme, its national governance, or national policy, NHS England is the lead organisation. Contact NHS England directly.

Our local position

Our Trusts are currently at an early stage of engagement with the FDP. Any activity involving patient information must be handled through our established information governance processes and in line with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, including UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We have made NHS England aware of the strength of feeling on this subject.

Governance, safeguards, and transparency

We recognise that concerns about data security, confidentiality, and ethical considerations must be taken seriously. Any processing of patient information by NHS organisations must be lawful, proportionate, and appropriately governed, with suitable oversight and assurance in place. At Bristol NHS Group we are absolutely committed to adhering to these principles and obligations.

Why we are not responding to individual correspondence

Due to the volume of correspondence and to ensure our response is consistent, transparent, and sustainable, we will not be replying to messages related to this subject individually. Instead this page is our single statement of record and will be kept under review.
