Working with us

Did you know that there are over 300 different NHS careers and over a million people in the UK following them? From radiographers and doctors to specialist nurses, caterers and accountants, we couldn't provide good care without them.

As one of the largest teaching Trusts in the South West, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston can offer you a huge range of jobs. Many of these include working directly with patients, however there are a lot of other roles that contribute to providing the best healthcare by offering valuable support across our organisation.

Whether you want to work in a caring job, or your skills are in another specialism such as administration, maintenance, finance, or even food production, there are roles suited to you here, at UHBW.

Visit our interactive 'Love Life, Love Bristol and Weston' website for lots more careers information, films, details of upcoming open days and to find our current vacancies.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are a great way to learn and earn on the job. We provide a range of apprenticeships to support a huge number of career opportunities in clinical and non-clinical support services with apprenticeships starting at level 2 through to level 7. As an organisation we encourage further development of all employees to progress upward within their chosen field.

Work experience

Work experience is an opportunity for students to observe/shadow NHS staff in a day-to-day working environment. The student will gain knowledge and a better understanding of the NHS. The placement can be both educational and inspirational, and can enable you to move forward in achieving your goals and aspirations for your future career.

Traineeships

A traineeship is an education and training programme which incorporates work experience, preparing young people for their future careers by helping them to become ‘work ready’.

Designed for people aged 16 to 24 who don’t yet have the appropriate skills or experience, traineeships provide the essential work preparation training, English, maths and work experience needed to secure an apprenticeship or employment.  A traineeship has three core elements:

  • A high-quality work experience placement with UHBW
  • Work preparation training, provided by the training organisation
  • English and maths support, if required, provided by the training organisation

Traineeships generally last up to 6 months with the content tailored to the needs of UHBW and the individual. Many Traineeship students successfully move onto an apprenticeship with UHBW at the end of their programme.
