North Somerset MP meets Pharmacy colleagues

Left to right: Jon Standing, Sadik Al-Hassan, Ingrid Barker and Matt KayeWe were very pleased to welcome Sadik Al-Hassan, MP for North Somerset, to the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) recently.

Sadik met with our Chair Ingrid Barker to hear about Bristol NHS Group, before being given a tour of the Pharmacy departments at the BRI.

Jon Standing, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) Director of Pharmacy and Matt Kaye, North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) Director of Pharmacy, led the tour and talked about the closer working between the UHBW and NBT Pharmacy departments.

Sadik had some great conversations with Pharmacy colleagues in Radiopharmacy, Stores and Distribution, Digital Medicines, Procurement, Homecare, Clinical Trials, and Dispensary and Clinical Services, hearing about their departments, opportunities and ways we can strengthen services even further in the future. Sadik also took time to answer questions from the Pharmacy colleagues he met.

Sadik said: “It was a real pleasure to visit the Bristol Royal Infirmary and see first-hand the outstanding work being carried out across the Pharmacy departments at UHBW and NBT. The breadth and complexity of the work taking place was especially fascinating given my background in healthcare and pharmacy.

“I was particularly struck by the dedication and expertise of the teams I met, and I am grateful to Chair Ingrid Barker, Jon Standing and Matt Kaye for their time and for facilitating such an insightful visit. I look forward to continuing to support the important work of Bristol NHS Group and championing the vital contribution that pharmacy makes to our health services."

Thank you to Sadik for visiting us and to all of the colleagues who were involved in the visit.
