Bristol NHS Group shortlisted for four HSJ Digital Awards
We’re delighted to share that Bristol NHS Group has been shortlisted for four national awards in the HSJ Digital Awards 2026. The shortlist recognises outstanding digital innovation across North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW).
These nominations celebrate the work our teams are doing to improve patient care, reduce inequalities and make our services safer, more efficient and accessible.
You can read about our four shortlisted projects and individuals below:
Improving medicines and pharmacy through digital – CareFlow Medicines Management (NBT)
NBT has introduced a new electronic prescribing and medicines administration system to make prescribing safer and more efficient, which was also introduced at UHBW earlier in 2025. Built and configured by clinical teams, the system helps reduce errors, supports staff with clear dashboards and saves them valuable time across wards, theatres, maternity and the Emergency Department.
Digital Leader of the Year – Leah Parry (UHBW)
Leah Parry, UHBW’s first Chief x Information Officer for Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals, has been recognised for her collaborative approach to digital leadership. She works closely with clinical teams to ensure digital tools genuinely support patient care. Speaking about her nomination, Leah shared: “I feel incredibly honoured to be nominated for Digital Leader of the Year at the HSJ Digital Awards. This reflects the passion, commitment, and often bravery of the people I work with day to day. “Digital transformation only works when it’s rooted in people and collective ambition, and I’m really proud to be part of an organisation where digital is at the forefront of everything we do.”
Reducing health inequalities through digital – Early detection of liver cancer
Teams at NBT, working closely with colleagues at UHBW, have created a shared digital system to support early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), one of the fastest-growing cancers which is also closely linked to deprivation and long standing inequalities. The new platform replaces a manual tracker with a bespoke platform that helps identify patients who may be due or have missed vital six-monthly scans, ensuring no one is missed.
Unlocking productivity and efficiency with digital – Workplace health checks (NBT)
NBT has transformed how workplace cardiovascular health checks are recorded and managed. By replacing manual Excel processes with an automated digital platform, staff checks are completed more quickly, risks are identified sooner and data is managed more safely — all using existing digital platforms. The project has enabled 5000 staff health checks to be delivered a month early, with automation reducing the processing time by 95%, freeing up clinicians to focus on care.
These nominations highlight the incredible work happening across our Group to improve care through thoughtful, clinically led digital change.
