Another year of the ALIVE Dementia Gardens at UHBW

The Dementia Delirium Falls Team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust are continuing their partnership with Bristol and Weston Hospitals Charity and ALIVE to run the Sanctuary and Rainbow Gardens at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital for another year.

Both gardens have brought comfort and support for patients who often feel confined in a hospital setting and given them the confidence to take part in ecocraft activities and weekly therapeutic gardening sessions, run by Alive, a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for older people and their carers.

The family of a patient staying at Weston General said "We came to visit Dad, he has had a long hospital stay and we were surprised to see him totally engrossed in a gardening activity. This is the first time we have visited and he has looked like our old Dad, happy and laughing, doing something he loved to do at home - gardening."

This renewed grant enables the Dementia Delirium Falls team to continue this impactful work for our patients and their families. Thank you to Bristol and Weston Hospitals Charity and the Alive charity for their continued support and dedication to improving the wellbeing of patients with dementia.

An outdoor scene shows two people standing beside a long white table set up for a nature-based activity. The table is covered with fallen leaves in shades of red, yellow and brown, as well as pinecones, small decorative objects, and printed sheets. Several potted plants sit along the table, including bright purple flowers in the foreground and green leafy plants. One person reaches toward a basket of pinecones while the other leans in to look more closely. The setting includes a paved courtyard with curved yellow brick patterns, a building wall with windows, and greenery in the background.
